Wordpress for iphone2.0

Just testing out this new version, I’ve been a bit dubious about blogging on iPhone since using the old version of the wordpress app and losing two lengthy posts!
Anyway, this is pretty much a test so here’s a photo of me at the top of the col de la Colombiere from my summer holiday!

Actually, those [...]

2009 Retrospective

I have to say that a lot of people seem to be ‘dissing’ 2009 as an awful year and expectantly looking forward to 2010. Not so for me, 2009 was a fantastic year! I started the year with a entry to L’etape and a whole load of training in prospect, slightly overweight and about to [...]

I’m starting to think…

That the crazy notion of riding D2D solo this year isn’t meant to be. Not only am I struggling with motivation to train properly, I’m also having lots of niggly issues with the bike and general bad luck all round. Maybe I should bin this one and have another beer?
So, I managed to get the [...]

Not the one with hole in, the other kind…

Polos. Small, red and driven by an apparently myopic student.
This morning it was apparently my turn to be unseated from my steed during rush hour. I didn’t stand a chance.
Riding in the bus lane is generally, in my experience, preferable to riding with the cars. You have to watch out for buses (easy as they’re [...]

Etape: The official photos

I carried a camera in my jersey pocket for the etape, great for snapping the views but no use for pictures of oneself. Handily, the organisers have pro shooters at various strategic locations along the route (mostly towards the top of Ventoux to catch you a: going slowly and b:looking your best-not!). I was sucker [...]

The Giant of Provence

“Your eyes stay glued on your front wheel, and it’s your innards you’re staring at there. Ventoux simply feeds back your fatigue and fear. It has total knowledge of the shape you’re in, your capacity for cycling happiness, and happiness in general. It’s yourself you’re climbing. If you don’t want to know, stay at the [...]

The calm before

Here we are in southern France, Pierrelatte to be precise, just 25km south of the etape start town of Montelimar. Travel was mostly fine, the coach transfer was a grind and our driver (who had the uncanny resemblance of one of the Chuckle Brothers) kept getting the coach jammed in small hotel car-parks that weren’t [...]

Check, check and check again…

Headset came loose again last night. I’ve decided that it’s a carbon/carbon problem and the stem is slipping on the steerer over time. To resolve it I’ve been to Pedal Revolution at lunchtime and bought some ‘Carbogrip’ to see if I can make the joint more permanent. I’ll probably whack some threadlock on the bolts [...]

Last minute faffing

In seven days time I’ll be in Peirrelatte on the eve of the Etape. This last week the weather was terrible and I got wet every day but one. I was taking it reasonably easy to recover after the Dynamo and I had a niggly pain at the top of my right calf. I resolved [...]
